I can't say I was surprised to hear that George Bush, the Worst President in History, has defied the will of Congress and the American people by using a "recess appointment" to name Sam Fox as Ambassador to Belgium. This is vile on two counts. First, Congress is on a break of a few days and there is no urgency in this appointment. The recess appointment power is meant to be used for the purpose of filling important posts when Congress is gone for extended periods. And yes I know Clinton and every other President made recess appointments. But did they do it when Congress was out of town for 4 days? And Second, Sam Fox provided substantial funds to the so-called "Swift-boat Veterans for Truth," the politically motivated liars who attacked John Kerry in the 2004 election. Fox denies that he knew what his contribution would be used for, but when he stands next to the Worst President in History (also known as the Biggest Liar in History) and accepts this reward for his fundraising services, why should we believe him?
It's no crime, of course, to reward campaign donors with plum positions (unfortunately, all Presidents do it) and Fox is likely to do little harm in his post, but this appointment is all about a petulant President thumbing his nose at Congress and the American people while he says, "I can do whatever the hell I want and you can't stop me!" Meanwhile, the Worst President in History is digging a bigger hole for himself at the bottom of the heap.
