A Probably Final Post About Dog/Maxfield

I have to admit to being confused. It turns out, apparently, that John Maxfield (The Journal of the Common Man, now renamed Chronicles of the Dog?), who may or may not really be John Maxfield, a lawyer and/or cigar shop proprietor, is also General Grievous’[sic] Dog, but that they may both be a 16-year-old high school student named Alex, except that could be every bit as phony as his (her?) other identities and they might turn out to be Steve Kijak (RightsideVa) or Lynn Mitchell (SWAC Girl) or the not-yet-unmasked Elle (In-politically correct) or someone else entirely. Maybe it’s Kijak, since he’s got a nasty streak in him a mile wide. So do SWAC Girl and Elle, of course, but they rarely display the intelligence of Maxfield so I think they’re long shots. There’s also Spank That Donkey, who is even ruder and more childish than the rest of them, so he’s not a likely candidate. Unless it’s all an elaborate ruse and the whole bunch of them are way smarter than I give them credit for. Nah. That can’t be it. If they didn’t make it so personal, it might be amusing political theater.

I also don’t understand why so many bloggers, left and right, hide behind pseudonyms. If they’re going to engage in serious discussion and, in the case of so many of the Republican folks mentioned above, personal attacks, the least they could do is reveal their identities and take responsibility for their words. Whatever else they may claim about Waldo Jaquith’s delisting of Dog/Maxfield from the Virginia Political Bloggers Aggregator, he was upfront abut it. And he did it all in his own name. But then the Reactionaries are nothing if not unreasonable, so clearly it is expecting too much.
