Democracy for All! (Unless you're Palestinian, apparently)

I'm no fan of Hamas. They clearly are a significant roadblock to Middle East peace. But didn't they win a majority in the Palestinian Parliament in a free election? Isn't the Bush Regime all about promoting democracy in the Middle East? Isn't that the current excuse for our occupation of Iraq (after the weapons of mass destruction lie fell apart)? And while I can understand not providing aid to the Hamas-led government until they recognize Israel's right to exist, have we not now been complicit in a coup against Hamas? Are we not supporting Abbas and Fatah's elimination of Hamas from the government? What the hell happened to Democracy? Oh, that's right. Democracy is just an excuse for intervention when it's convenient, it isn't a genuine goal. Should have known. Bushwhacked again.
